lets tuned Mercedes GL take on a polo horse
No domesticated animal has fascinated people as much as horses. A knight’s mighty horse once was a status symbol; today, first-class race horses are sold for millions. In order to make a stylish film about its latest automotive creation, premium car tuner LARTE Design has therefore opted for a very unusual video clip, which also lets viewers draw conclusions on why the company’s logo features no fewer than 3 horseshoes.
The fictitious point-to-point race between a polo horse and the LARTE “Black Crystal“, based on the Mercedes GL, was shot on the Starck stud farm near Weilerswist in North Rhine – Westphalia, whose boss, Daniela Starck, was so fascinated by the project that she was ready to ride the horse herself all the time.
Although the tuned “Black Crystal“ has more than 290 hp / 213 kW (serial version: 258 hp / 190 kW and 620 Nm), the drivers were quite astonished how very agile and spontaneously speedy the horse was. Conversely, the horse fans found the visual refinement of the mighty car quite compelling. And, of course, it is also very practical and perfect for adventures “off the road”. The kicker, however, are the visual changes LARTE Design made.
The LARTE “Black Crystal“, which owes its name to two giant crystals of sorts on the front apron, includes a very aggressive body kit, black 22’’ alloy wheels and a sonorous exhaust system. The escutcheon-shaped front guard, stretching almost along the entire height, is the defining feature: LED daytime running light, jags, edges, boomerang-shaped elements, exposed-carbon inserts and a number of air inlets make for a really martial appearance.
To lend it sporty proportions, LARTE has equipped the Mercedes GL with new aprons and mighty wing spacers, rear and front. Side skirts and rear door beads also underscore its width. What is especially striking is the central, formula-1-type brake light and the 4-pipe carbon-coated stainless-steel exhaust system.
