Kazan. Eco-district. The competition winner’s project is Ecopolis ‘Two forests’

A video clip about the eco-district project in Kazan, made by the winner of the Open International Competition for the Eco-district Concept and Master Plan Development in Kazan. The competition was announced by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Agency for Strategic Development CENTER acted as the organizing committee for the competition, and was the author of the study that formed the basis for participants. The competition was initiated by the Republican Support Fund.

The participants had the task of developing the concept of an absolutely new area for the city, which will bring an extra-urban lifestyle within the city, with maximum integration of development into the existing natural landscape. Projects were prepared taking into account the current General Plan of the urban district of Kazan.

The winner was announced by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at a press conference held on November 7. Victory was claimed by the English-French-Russian consortium led by Knight Frank (Russia, England), with its project Ecopolis ‘Two forests’. Other members of the consortium include: XTU Architects (France), OXO Architects (France), John Thompson & Partners/JTP (England), Architectural Landing Force (Russia, Republic of Tatarstan), and TERRA SCAPE (Belgium).
