Original entitelt "O Barquinho" was first recorded in 1961 by the guitarist João Gilberto. A year later, in 1962, it was recorded by the American guitarist Charlie Bryd – and many times since then. That year, the American entertainment magazine Billboard (also known for its music charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200), listed Charlie Byrd’s recording of O Barquinho in the column of singles with “strong sales potential”. Indeed, it was to become one of Menescal’s most famous songs.

In 1986, Peter Fessler gained worldwide attention as the singer of the pop hit "New York-Rio-Tokyo". Peter Fessler has released more than a dozen albums. In addition, there are major concert successes, sometimes in duets, sometimes as a support act, with world stars such as: Al Jarreau, Toots Thielemans, Randy Crawford, George Benson, Shirley Bassey, Gilbert Bécaud, Bobby McFerrin, Take 6, Roberto Menescal, Till Brönner, Don Grusin and Randy Brecker.

In 2014 he was awarded the Echo/Jazz in the category "Best National Singer" for his album "Quality Time". The "figurehead for jazz singing in Germany".
