[WHEN PHONES WERE FUN: SAMSUNG JUKE, 2007]
Before they had to be everything from camera replacements to pocket internet tablets, mobile phones were free to take many more physical forms than they do today. They could be as decadent as mechanical wristwatches; as impractical as science-fiction movie props … or as small as a pack of gum.
It’s October 2007, and just in time for the US holiday season, alongside a new BlackBerry and two LG feature phones, Verizon is about to drop the most iconic music phone ever to hit US shores. A descendant of the SGH-X830 (aka "Samsung Blush") and SGH-F210, the SCH-U470 would sport a revised design alongside a sadly eviscerated spec sheet when it arrived on America's largest network – but that didn't matter to a generation of music lovers who bought the "Samsung Juke."
[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]
This is the latest in a series of MrMobile videos exploring the mobile tech world's most vibrant period in design and experimentation. In “When Phones Were Fun,” Michael Fisher re-reviews cellphones from the golden age of mobile, the decade-long span from the turn of the century to approximately 2013.
This episode was produced with several Samsung Juke devices purchased by MrMobile and donated by channel viewers. MrMobile does not offer manufacturers the opportunity to preview, edit or approve content before publication. Neither Samsung nor any other manufacturer provided compensation in exchange for this coverage. The lone sponsor of this content is Surfshark.
Samsung X830 donated by Sabrina Ortiz. Additional Samsung Juke donated by Aaron McCulloch. Many thanks!
