Although traditionally forensic deception research focuses on police – suspect interviews, researchers increasingly examine deception in counter-terrorism interviews. There are many differences between traditional police interviews and counter-terrorism interviews, and these differences merit new research activities. In this presentation the speaker concentrate on three differences between traditional police-suspect and counter-terrorism interviews which have attracted research to date: (i) lying about future activities (intentions rather than about past activities), (ii) covert interviewing where undercover interviewers conduct interviews without the interviewees being aware that they are being interviewed, and (iii) collective interviewing in which groups of suspects are interviewed together (collectively).
