Bucky Barnes is one of the most interesting and complex characters in the MCU. He started out as Steve Rogers’ best friend, but over the course of the three phases, he became so much more.
From a war hero, he was brainwashed and turned into the Winter Soldier, a deadly assassin that shaped the century.
But after a long road, Bucky was finally able to regain his memories, and fix his fractured mind.
But then Avengers: Infinity War happened, and Bucky was the first to be snapped away, turning to dust with half of all life in the universe.
After watching Avengers: Endgame more times than humanly possible, I came to the realization that dusting Bucky might have been a mistake.
I think that Bucky should have survived the snap, since there are so many cool things Marvel could have done with him in Endgame.
There is obviously his unfinished business with Iron Man.
Bucky killed Tony Stark’s parents, and while things blew up in Captain America: Civil War, he never got an actual resolution for that. And we really needed a moment between Bucky and Tony.
Beyond that there is the fact that Bucky played such a big role in Captain America’s journey in the MCU, and it’s a shame the two war buddies didn’t get a chance to share more time in their final movie.
And so, it’s time to ask the What if question. What if Bucky didn’t get dusted. Well it’s time to see what would happen.
