Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the greatest television series of all time for so many reasons. It has an incredible art style, iconic characters, and some of the best world building you’ll ever see. While all of those aspects make the show the legend that it is, the series also boasts some of the greatest fight scenes to ever grace the small screen.
The show takes its premise of people being able to control elements and dials the action up to eleven with plenty of drama, shocking moments and the kind of choreography you usually only see from a martial arts movie. The action isn’t just great to look at, it also drives home the character arcs and themes of the series.
Whether it’s Aang struggling to come to terms with the lethal force he’d need to stop Fire Lord Ozai, Zuko’s multiple Agni Kai or even Katara using a terrifying form of water bending in order to save her friends, The Last Airbender expertly uses action to tell its tale, not just add fun to it.
The show also caps off these scenes with gruesome fatalities, massive twists and one transformation into a water monster that overwhelmed an entire Fire Nation army. In fact, it’s hard to think of any big budget Hollywood movie that has so effectively merged its action with its storytelling so successfully.
