Thor didn’t start off his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like the Hulk he was more popular in the ensemble films than he was in his solo efforts. But if you were paying attention Thor was undergoing a transformation that was perhaps one of the biggest in the MCU. Thor learns a lot of lessons over his time, transforming from a brash and arrogant warrior to a leader who has to use power responsibly and understand that priorities are not determined by the swing of his hammer Mjolnir. Not only does his character undergo a pretty dramatic transformation, but how the movies themselves regard the God of Thunder from clever aliens to trading quips with his big sis Hela about who is the god of what. Thor’s relationship with his archenemy, who just so happens to be his brother Loki, helps fuel that growth were most of the rest of the MCU kill or permanently dispose of their villains no matter how iconic they are to the heroes, like Ultron whos only solid appearance was in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Where fellow Avengers Captain America and Iron Man have their criss cross developments with Captain America going from looking for ways to sacrifice himself to finding a thing to live for and Iron Man going from a self absorbed egotists to finding something he’d sacrifice himself for, Thor’s road is a little more complicated. It shares some similarities, especially with the phase three heroes like Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Let’s look at his journey as a hero and a god.
