Could mutants have been hiding in plain sight this entire time?

When Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, it was clearly a great business deal for the company that will likely own everything soon. But for Marvel fans, this massive deal really boiled down to one thing: we will finally see the X-Men and the Fantastic 4 join the MCU.
It’s possible that Marvel Studios will have an easier time to introduce the Fantastic 4 than the X-Men, since it’s more than just adding one team, but a whole race of mutants.
Marvel Studios could always use Wanda Maximoff as the way to bring the X-Men into the mix, by changing reality in WandaVision. Or maybe Doctor Strange could travel the multiverse, and find the mutants in another universe.
However, these theories have been floating around for a while now, so we here at CBR will try to be a bit more original.
What if the X-Men and the other mutants have always been in the MCU world, but the reason no one has even noticed them, is because Professor X has been using his powers to hide them from the rest of the world.
Charles Xavier has amazing telepathic abilities, and he’s one powerful mutant. He can change and erase whole memories with ease. So what if he’s been using that very power to erase any memory of mutants in the MCU, keeping the existence of his people a secret from the humans.
This might be very possible, and a great way to set the mutants in the MCU, and maybe even set up Avengers vs X-Men.
