Doctor Strange upended the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not just by introducing magic formerly into the MCU, but by also introducing the multiverse as well. In comics, a multiverse has always been a big element. Not only as a source of other worldly friends and foes, but also as a way to contain alternate realities like where Gwen Stacy is the one who gets bitten by a radioactive spider. When Scott Lang emerged from the Quantum Realm with a plan for a Time Heist, that set off a whole new set of possibilities. One of those is a timeline where Loki has taken off with the Tesseract in 2012 when that didn’t happen originally. As the Ancient One explained, each deviation causes a new timeline to splinter out with devastating consequences. When there’s a problem with the multiverse, that’s a job for Doctor Strange. A new Reddit theory suggests that the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel might actually be a prequel, in that it deals with the period of time between when Doctor Strange is snapped back into existence and when he brings in the cavalry to the Avengers compound for the final showdown with Thanos. This would also mean that WandaVision, the show that features the Scarlet Witch and Vision living out a surreal sitcom life, would be taking place in one of those alternate realities that feeds right into the Doctor Strange sequel. So will we be making another nostalgic trip through the Infinity Saga where Doctor Strange sorts out the fractured realities while Nightmare tries to break into our reality? Let’s take a look.
