Now that Birds of Prey has soared into theatres (sorry), audiences everywhere are rushing to the movies to catch a glimpse of Harley Quinn and her awesome new gang. While the whole movie is pretty great, two characters really do stand out. And those are, of course, Black Mask and his number two, Victor Zsasz. In the movie, we get to know a lot about Black Mask, but Zsasz remains a bit more of a mystery.
If you’re not super familiar with the comic books, you might not know anything about this villainous character at all, but once you learn all about who he is, you might wish you had stayed in the dark.
See, Zsasz is one of the scariest, most violent characters ever to cross the pages of a comic book. He has a long history fighting Batman, and while he has never quite won, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t done a ton of damage in the meantime. Zsasz has the same type of complicated history that most comic baddies do, in that he lost his parents in a tragic accident and never quite recovered. But instead of going the heroic route, he went in an entirely different, and way more violent, direction. He has been in an out of Arkham Asylum ever since he was twenty five years old, and for good reason!
