How many times have we seen this play out? The bad guy loses to the good guy and the heroes live happily ever after. It has been a story as old as storytelling itself. However, there comes a time when the bad guy wins. It has to happen eventually, but rarely we see our baddies get ahead, even if it is just for a moment. Perhaps it is the rarity that makes these moments so special, or perhaps it is because the bad guy is just cooler than the good guy. In Dragon Ball, most of the main fights people remember involve Goku beating the villain in some way. Frieza, Vegeta, Buu, you name it, Goku has fought it.

However, he is far from the only fighter who has taken on a major villain, and there are some villains he has lost to! Today, we will be giving the spotlight to some of the other main character fights in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z where the villains actually got ahead. We will be looking at fights like Yamcha vs Tien, Goku vs Mercenary Tao and even Piccolo’s first fights in the series. Of course, we need to balance out this bad guy win fest with some good old fashioned DBZ good guy wins. So after we look at the bad guy fights, we will be looking at times when these villains got their just desserts.
