A new Batman is coming and you know what that means. No, it’s not a new Joker. But what we do get is a brand new Alfred in Andy Serkis who might just change the butler-game.
Serkis has played dozens of different roles, but his most recognizable one is in the MCU, as Ulysses Klaue, the conniving Afrikaner who appears in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther. In each of the movies, he’s trying to steal stuff and sell and, in the end, he gets what he deserves.
The roles that he’s most known for, though, are the ones in which he’s almost completely unrecognizable. This guy is the Brad Pitt of CGI, the George Clooney of motion capture. He’s been acting and voicing the most iconic CGI characters in cinema for almost two decades now. And, along with using the technology, he’s helped develop it too.
In 2001, he played Gollum in Lord of the Rings and knocked the collective socks off the movie-going public. This was a new frontier for cinema. He kept it up with another role in the 2005 version of King Kong, where he played, you guessed it, Kong. Then, a few years later, he brought his primate expertise to the set of Rise of The Planet of The Apes and its two sequels.
Today we’ll be comparing the master of motion capture with the Alfreds of the past, to see how what the future holds for him and The Batman.
