The Dragon Ball franchise has all sorts of beloved characters. Everyone respects characters like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo. Even more minor characters like Trunks and Krillin get their time to shine. That being said, some characters don’t always get the respect they deserve. It’s sad that Goku almost always gets to be the one to take down the saga’s main villain when so many others are waiting in the wings.
One of the main characters that gets overlooked is Goku’s youngest son Goten. When Gohan was a child, he was more or less the lead character of many Dragon Ball Z arcs. Often Goku would be in the afterlife or in a coma or traveling through space. During this time the series would pivot to Gohan as the major protagonist. This even seemed like it would be the arc of the series slowly moving from one generation to the next. When Gohan defeated Cell, it was almost like he was taking his father’s place.
Goten hasn’t received anywhere near that level of attention. This is sad because Goten is actually a pretty impressive little warrior. He was able to achieve a Super Saiyan power level at an extremely early age. Not only that but when combined with Trunks to form Gotenks, he stands as one of the Earth’s greatest warriors. He’s also faced many powerful enemies with ease.
So it’s time that Goten gets the respect he deserves. Here are ten times Goten was heavily underestimated in Dragon Ball.
