For the first three phases of the MCU as we know it, Thanos pretty much ran the game. Even when we didn’t know much about him, we can go back now and find references to the Mad Titan all over the place. When it comes to weaving a complex web in superhero movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unmatched. Sorry, DC, but it’s true. Now that the Infinity Saga has wrapped up, all eyes are on Phase 5 and what could possibly go down over the next few years.
We already know what movies to expect in the short-term, like Black Widow and Falcon and Winter Soldier, but what about the next big bad? As of right now, it’s not clear, but we’ve got a theory that might boot Kevin Feige’s world into overdrive – assuming it’s not already in play. Thanos may be long gone, but he could’ve easily have picked out someone to ensure that his plan gets completed, even if they do it their own way. Who better to do so than someone with the same appetite for destruction as Thanos than Annihilus, the supreme ruler of the Negative Zone?
He’s got the power, the drive, and most importantly – the comic book storylines to back him up on the big screen. Now that Thanos is gone, we need a new supervillain to keep us on our toes. Our gaze shift to Annihilus and how he could be Thanos’ successor in this interstellar theory.
