Even though a lot of them are pure evil, there are actually a lot of anime villains with justifiable reasons. We may not like it, as it’s easier to hate a villain when you can’t relate to them at all, but the truly memorable anime villains are the ones who are relatable and understandable. It just tends to make the show that much more enjoyable when the hero is up against a villain that isn’t entirely wrong in their beliefs. The only thing is that they’re usually not afraid to spill some blood along the way.
Think of My Hero Academia’s Stain and his quest to expose the fake heroes in our society or Psycho-Pass’s Shogo Makishima, who wants to destroy the Big Brother-esque Sibyl System to give the people free will again. Even Light Yagami in Death Note started his kill-happy crusade with the intention to rid the world of all crime and, seeing how he reduced the crime rate by 70%, it’s hard to argue with his results.
Yes, these villains do bad things and tend to be ruthless and merciless in their quest to accomplish their goals, but a common theme that unites almost all of them is their mindset of being willing to do horrible things for the greater good. We’ve gone ahead and made a video about some the best anime villains with understandable motives, so check it out and be sure to let us know in the comments afterwards which villains you think have justifiable reasons.
