Superhero comics come pre-packaged with a central conceit. Most of what you’re about to read isn’t how things work, so sit back and enjoy the ride. For the most part, as long as the story follows the rules that it creates for itself, it’s easy for the audience to suspend their disbelief, but sometimes, even in the reality itself, some things kind of don’t make sense. Regardless, we tend to look the other way and enjoy the adventures of our favorite heroes. It could be the weird relationship between mutants and other heroes or Captain America’s shield being able to absorb or repel energy based on what he needs to happen in the moment.
Most of the logic problems come in the form of the Asgardian brothers Thor and Loki, but characters like Hawkeye and Black Widow can get in on the action as well. Even the origins sometimes don’t hold up under the rules set forth by the publishers, like issues with the hero’s homeland like the Black Panther’s Wakanda or the cause of them getting powers in the first place through questionable science experiments like Bruce Banner and the Hulk or accidental radiation like the spider bite that turned mild mannered Peter Parker into the Spectacular Spider-Man. Whether it’s Hawkeye and Natasha fighting alongside Thor and Iron Man or the sliding physics of Ant-Man, it’s never enough to ruin our enjoyment of our favorite heres. Let's look at the things we’ve been overlooking.
