Deleted scenes have been a staple of the home release of movies dating all the way back to the days of VHS cassettes. They really hit their heyday with the introduction of DVDs and BluRays and these days have become as expected as an end credits scene in a Marvel movie. For the conclusion of the Infinity Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame had a lot of storylines to wrap up and filmmakers had to make some hard decisions about what to include and what to let hit the editing room floor. With a runtime of three hours, there had to be some relief. Some were cut because they scenes were better served in other scenes like Tony Stark’s funeral. There were other moments, like with Rocket Raccoon, that took away from the main Avengers stories that were wrapping the journey they started at the beginning. There are more moments with the grief stricken Thor, or a heroic Hulk. But hidden in these lost moments of levity between Rhodey Rhodes and Steve Rogers or Rocket’s assessment of Thanos’ choice in armies are hidden moments that give us hints towards the future for certain characters like Gamora. While it’s fun to see the process of how the film was eventually assembled and what could have been, this is a shared universe. There are still mysteries to be solved, futures to hint at, and comic book references to hide. So let’s take a look at what was hidden in these deleted scenes and what they tell us about the MCU past and future.
