The Times Dragon Ball Was Censored In America

Dragon Ball Z has quite the infamous history of being censored in American broadcasts. From the original U.S. broadcasts to the Nicktoons airing of Kai, there are plenty of strange instances of the franchise’s content being censored. The reason for this is that, while the series wasn’t intended to be a show strictly for kids, when it came over to America, it got lumped in with kids shows since America tends to only think of cartoons as being for children. As such, the series was heavily censored to fit America’s strict kids TV regulations, leading to some of the strangest edits of all time.

Everything from mentions and allusions to religion or hell to all the blood and nudity had to be changed, removed or edited to better fit the standards of children's television. This lead to infamously hilarious moments like Goku going to the “Home For Infinite Losers” instead of Hell, Piccolo’s blood being recolored, Mr. Satan’s name being changed to Hercule and, of course, deaths being changed to “moving on to the next dimension.”

Because of how strangely the series has been censored over the years, we decided to list off all of the instances in which the series was just too much for America, or, at the very least, thought to be too much for American kids to handle. Check out this video for all of the riskiest parts of Dragon Ball that had to be censored in America and don’t forget to subscribe to CBR for more Dragon Ball videos.
