The size and scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been huge and groundbreaking. Prior to the release of Iron Man, kickstarting the MCU, the closest thing to a franchise like this was Marvel’s other property in the hands of a different studio: the X-Men. They were still a year away from the rather disappointing foray into extending their universe with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. For the MCU, they were going to do the character introductions first and lead to the team up against Loki and the Chitauri to form the Avengers, the team at the center of the MCU.

Ten years and over twenty movies as well as broadcast and streaming shows, the MCU has become adept at foreshadowing character introductions and future events. Sometimes they’re subtle and sometimes they’re major events affecting the stories across the shared universe. Let’s look at some the best ones.
