For the most part, Dragon Ball battles are more than just mindless brawls, they have strong story content and importance. The mark of a good fight with good story content is when the characters struggle to finish each other off whether it’s because they’re equally matched, making for a better fight, or because this struggle represents the themes and ideas present in the battle.

Perhaps that might be a bit of an overly philosophical approach to epic battles, but the point remains, some of the best brawls in Dragon Ball are the ones that are the hardest to fight.
