Ash’s quest to become a Pokémon master has been going on since the 90s, starting with the OG seasons of the anime. The Gen 1 segments of the Pokémon anime are classics at this point and, as such, the battles featured throughout still hold up to this day, specifically Ash’s battles. Ash was never perfect from the start, which is part of what makes these original episodes so special. He had to learn from his failures, leading to some great battles after he had trained to move past his shortcomings.

Suffice to say, Ash’s battles from Gen 1 of the anime are among some of the best in the entire franchise, but, you might ask, which of these early season battles are amongst the character’s best?
