Marvel hasn’t always had the squeaky clean look it has now provided by Disney. In fact, there are some pretty controversial moments that Marvel comics has in its past that they would love for us fans to forget about. Unfortunately for them, comic book fans are the die-hardiest of fans in the world. We do forgive (well, sometimes), but we never forget. How could we? The pages we read are about characters we have come to know and love through decades of material. Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Wolverine, the Guardians of the Galaxy, these are all heroes who have entertained us for years. Also, these are just Marvel characters. We can’t forget the multitude of DC characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, heck, even Aquaman has somehow become awesome. So when comic book publishers try to mess with our super heroes after all these years, us fans tend to get a tad upset. And by “tad” we mean, “I’m never going to buy another one of these stupid things again until this is fixed,” “tad.” Of course, not all controversial moments are bad. There are some that test the boundaries of our understanding of comics or redefine our preconceptions of what a comic should be. Most of the time, however, these controversial moments are caused by uneducated writers and publishers meddling with things they shouldn’t.
