We idolize superheroes because they are usually selfless, they want to protect citizens and mankind. What makes them more powerful than humans? Their superpowers of course. We love them because it allows us to live vicariously and imagine what life would be like with supernatural abilities. But what happens when superpowers are too much to handle? Would you be able to control them all of the time?
Not all superpowers are created equal, some in fact are dangerous to not just the hero themselves but the people and world’s around them. Some of these heroes include Radioactive Man, who intentionally exposed himself to small amounts of radiation over time until he built up tolerance. He gained control of the radiation but never full control as he can’t turn off his radiation. Black Bolt’s voice can level an entire block and so he must remain mute. Ghost Rider gets his powers from a demon possessing him, pretty spooky stuff. Captain Atom is essentially a walking atomic bomb. Citizen Steel’s body has caused him to lose feeling of physical touch and he can’t control how strong he is. Liz Sherman is an uncontrolled pyro. She starts fires and although she gets better at controlling them, she can still lose control based on her emotions. New 52 Superman has an amazing new superflare ability that can destroy pretty much anything but leaves him completely drained. Scarlet Witch’s reality altering chaos magic makes her lose her mind as well as any control. Jean Grey ends up killing herself because the Phoenix takes too much. Last but not least, Hulk loses control anytime he gets angry.
