After Order 66 was executed, the Galactic Republic fell and the Dark Times began. Turned over to the dark side, Anakin Skywalker, now Darth Vader killed Younglings and even tried to kill Obi-Wan, his best friend and master. Yoda tried to stop Darth Sidious in response to the collapse of the Galactic Republic. Obi-Wan defeated Anakin, but did not finish him off, thinking that his injuries were too severe to live through. Alas, Anakin was revived fully as Darth Vader. Additionally, Yoda failed to kill Darth Sidious and had to flee to save his life. As a result of their perceived failures, and to preserve the Jedi traditions and their own lives both Jedi went into hiding. Obi-Wan went to Tatooine to look over Luke Skywalker and Yoda went to live on Dagobah. Now, I admit that things were more than a little hairy for the Jedi and the Galactic Republic after it’s collapse, but there was a small, dedicated resistance forming and hope lived on. Obi-Wan and Yoda could have stayed and fought against the Galactic Empire to help even the odds, or to even bring a semblance of peace to the galaxy. However, the reasons for exile are sound. While both Obi-Wan and Yoda did bring about the return of the Jedi with Luke, I wonder what would have happened had the two stayed in the game so to speak. What would happen if Obi-Wan and Yoda didn’t go into exile after the events in Episode 3.
