Spider-Man has had an interesting journey throughout the MCU. He started out as a naive teen with extraordinary superpowers who was suddenly thrust into the spotlight to fight in the Avengers’ Civil War. From there, he became Tony Stark’s protege, with the genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist offering the perfect blend of wisdom and sarcasm to help shape Peter into the hero he is today. After Tony died, it seemed like Peter was on the hunt for another mentor and although Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio seemed like someone who could help teach Peter more hero lessons, it turned out to be all part of Mysterio’s evil plot. So overall, Spider-Man should be done looking for mentors and instead try turning the tables. Maybe now he’s learned enough to become a mentor himself.
Because as we know, Riri Williams, aka the future Ironheart is getting her own Disney+ show but there’s a big question on how exactly her show will play out. I mean, in the comics, Iron Man is Riri’s mentor and the young hero learns all about the hero business from him. Obviously that can’t happen now thanks to Tony’s heroic sacrifice in Endgame, but that makes it a little weird that Riri calls herself Ironheart and potentially uses Stark tech to make her suit without ever having met the man. But that’s where Spider-Man comes in. It would be so perfect for both characters if Spider-Man mentored Ironheart. It would truly bring his journey full circle.
