Avatar: How Animals And Celestials Helped Benders Become Masters
Subscribe: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-CBR
As we have discovered with the novels The Rise of Kyoshi and The Shadow of Kyoshi, or the Avatar: The Last Airbender andThe Legend of Korra comic book sequels, there’s a lot we don’t know yet about the ever expanding universe that is the Avatar franchise. While a few legends from Avatar are debatable after we discovered the story of Wan, the first Avatar, what we know is that elemental bending indeed comes from animals or spirit animals. While at first elements were only lent to humans from giant elementa lion turtles, Wan changed the face of the world forever when he was able to keep his firebending abilities. From there, he went on a journey to collect all four elements in order to fight against the dark spirit Vaatu.
While it is true that the elements came from these lion turtles, they weren’t really the ones teaching humans how to use them in fighting mode. Waterbenders learned how to master their elements through observing how the Moon affected the ocean tides in a dance of push and pull. Earthbenders like Oma and Shu or Toph Beifong learned seismic sense, and other useful earthbending skills from the badgermoles directly. When it comes to firebending, a white spirit dragon was the first to teach Wan an ancient technique which will come to be known as the Dancing Dragon. And finally, airbenders learned a trick or two by hanging out with their giant companion, the flying bisons.
In today’s video, I will explore how these animals inspired all the four elemental benders to better themselves.
