Even the all powerful Avatar has a bad now and then. Characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra all have been designed to be imperfect. And it’s precisely this aspect of the series that makes its characters so relatable one many levels. While Korra has been accused of being a Mary Sue on many occasions, the fact that it took her so long to master airbending, and that she is at times shown to be vulnerable, or even breakable, is what makes her so appealing.
Every character has their own strengths, but also their own weaknesses. What makes the Avatar series interesting is not only the powerful abilities each character holds, but also their flaws and failures. Both series are about change, and how people can better themselves through time. Some stay true to their original ways of thinking, while others change drastically, which also echoes how they use their elemental bending.
From Aang’s reliance on his emotions, to Korra’s lack of patience, passing by Zuko’s constant need for approval, and Bolin’s self-doubt, the characters we grew to love have matured, and transformed from one season to another.
In today’s Avatar video, I’ll go over each main character’s greatest weakness from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and throw in an extra Azula entry in there to spice things up.
