Marvel Studios is digging deep in its catalog as the Marvel Cinematic Universe marches on after defeating its first biggest threat, Thanos. One of those deep dive heroes is Marvel’s Master of Kung Fu, Shang Chi. Originally intended to be an adaptation of the TV series Kung Fu starring David Carradine, Marvel eventually had to resort to the Sax Rohmer property Fu Manchu. The problem is, Fu Manchu is the mastermind villain of Rohmer’s series of pulp novels and lacked that kung fu master at the center that Marvel was looking for, so they created Shang Chi, a suspiciously Bruce Lee looking Kung Fu fighting son and foe of Fu Manchu. Fu Manchu is no longer part of the world of Marvel, but his ‘son’ lives on with a new understanding of his dad who was actually Zheng Zu, an evil immortal. Since defeating and then redefeating his supervillain dad, Shang Chi has been cruising the Marvel Universe teaming up with Heroes for Hire, the Secret Avengers, and the regular Avengers before being recruited by Jimmy Wu as part of the Agents of Atlas. Yeah, the same Jimmy Wu. He gets around as well. As Shang Chi faces his supervillain dad in Legend of the Ten Rings, where else would you like to see Shang-Chi show up? Are you hoping like me that Jimmy Wu will form the Agents of ATLAS to take on Marvel’s underworld? Let us know in the comments and be sure to like and subscribe to CBR for the latest videos.
