While Flight has been proven to exist, thanks to the airbender Zaheer, there is still little we know about the rare ability. Within a sea of wild theories, some fans believe that he was actually gravitybending. Since there’s seemingly no air involved in the way he just floats across the sky, something tells me they might just be on to something. But if an airbender can bend gravity, and the phenomenon is actually caused by the movement of planets, wouldn’t an earthbender capable of gravitybending as well? Would gravitybenders be airbenders or earthbenders? Why not both? Since elemental bending has been separated into four distinct categories for so long, and the Avatar universe is constantly evolving, it would be quite interesting to see a mix of bending or new forms being shared between bending art styles, but in different ways.
After all, Harmonic Convergence changed the world by bringing back the airbenders. While it gave way too much power to the Red Lotus leader Zaheer, it also accelerated Avatar Aang’s dream of rebuilding the Air Nomads, now led by his son Tenzin who will finally be able to stop producing babies. If the event caused so much changes across the Avatar world in The Legend of Korra, who knows what other changes have occurred? This could be the occasion of the newly established Avatar Studios to explore new and exciting avenues like gravitybending, woodbending, bonebending or anything one can dream of.
