As the old adage goes: “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” And if our following theory is correct, those words will have never been so true. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finished the first leg of the Multiverse Saga, and as we quickly approach the beginning of Phase 5, it is clear that the next faction of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are currently being established and will soon assemble. With new Avengers will naturally come new looks as well. New looks in terms of team members, super suits and superpowers are a given, but beyond aesthetics, a new look could also imply how the Avengers are perceived by society and civilization in general. Which begs to question: What if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes weren’t viewed by the world as mighty or heroic at all?

We know that Kang the Conqueror and his Dynasty are on the way, which will be followed up by the Secret Wars, but that isn’t until Phase 6. In the meantime during Phase 5, we have a great deal of stops along the way. One of which will be Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon’s first cinematic outing wearing the red, white and blue in Captain America: New World Order. Confirmation of M.O.D.O.K.’s debut in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, as well as the return of both The Leader and Thunderbolt Ross during Captain America 4, can only mean that the Red Hulk is also on the way. But how does that affect the Avengers and America’s perception of them? What are the details of this dreaded “New World Order”? And how will the New Avengers come across as bad guys?

Join me as I thoroughly theorize and eloquently explain how The Avengers will be the villains of Phase 5!
