Tolkein's the Lord of the Rings sees many gigantic and scary creatures on display, with none being bigger or more terrifying than Smaug. Or so we thought. During the First Age, plenty of monstrosities and creatures plagued Middle-earth, and the largest and most terrifying dragon in the LOTR books and movies has been uncovered. The Lord of the Rings’ most terrifying creature wasn’t Smaug, it was much bigger!
