Netflix just dropped a teaser trailer for The Witcher Season 2 as part of its Geeked Week event, and while all they gave us was 12 seconds of footage, there's still a lot to react and pour over. We're talking Geralt of Rivia Easter eggs and references here! And Henry Cavill's not even in this Witcher teaser...
Wherever Freya Allan's Ciri is at the beginning of the Season 2 trailer, it appears that she's kept a bit of her homeland close to her in the form of a cloak or blanket with the Cintran sigil of a lion sewn into the fabric. We also see Ciri in a room filled with ancient swords and relics. The rack of swords directly behind Ciri was featured in a Twitter post from the official Witcher account in late 2020 with the caption "Honor the witchers who came before, now look around and let your curiosity explore."
Our curiosity is definitely peaked, as you'll see in our Witcher teaser trailer breakdown, because the piece seems to indicate that Ciri is likely at the witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen in Season 2. This exciting reveal also indicates that the new season is probably starting to move away from Andrezj Sapkowski's short stories and into the main storyline of the novels, which begins with the book titled Blood of Elves.
The second season of The Witcher has yet to receive a release date. But we do know that Netflix is also working on The Witcher: Blood Origin, a six-part spin-off prequel set 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia roamed the fictional land, in addition to The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which is an anime film focusing on Geralt's close friend and mentor, Vesemir.
