It looks like the Black Widow movie might’ve suffered a slight box office slump on release. Now the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) are blaming Disney for it, claiming they hurt figures by releasing Black Widow simultaneously in theaters and on Disney Plus Premier Access. Black Widow still achieved the largest US box office opening since the pandemic began, earning more than $215 million dollars globally. It opened to more than $60 million dollars on Disney Plus Premier Access, pushing its global haul past $200 mil. The second week was a different story, with Black Widow pulling in $26.3 million dollars in the US this past weekend. That’s a 67% decline, which The Hollywood Reporter noted as, “one of the biggest drops ever for a Marvel title, and the worst among the Marvel Cinematic Universe films released by Disney.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, NATO claims that the dip in theatrical revenue in the movie’s second week was due to Disney's day-and-date release strategy. In other news, talk about money on the table - HBO is all in on The Last of Us series, with reports that it’ll cost more than ten million dollars per episode. While he didn’t confirm the exact number, president of the IATSE 212 artist union, Damian Petti, told CTV, “This project well exceeds the eight-figure per episode mark, so there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of its impact. 1969 is the year that Indiana Jones 5 will be taking place. Filming for Indy 5 is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. This means the movie will take place 12 years after the events of the series' fourth installment, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was set in 1957.
