Humankind is a 4X strategy game where you build an empire, beginning with a neolithic tribe and travelling through to the modern era. In a genre long dominated by the likes of Sid Meier's Civilization series, developer Amplitude Studios is looking to switch up the formula. Here’s how Humankind differs from other strategy games. Sponsored by SEGA.

Humankind is different from other strategy games like Civilization. One of the main differences between Humankind and Civilization, is the option to pick a new culture when entering a new era. Each culture is associated with one of seven affinities: Aesthete, Militarist, Expansionist, Builder, Agrarian, Merchant and Scientist. Affinities dictate cultures' general play style. Each culture also comes with a legacy trait which rewards you for picking that culture and stays with you after you’ve moved on to another culture. Players can also customise the look of their empire’s leader. With 60 cultures to play across 6 eras, there are over a million different combinations for your empire. Take part in advanced tactical battles, make choices on behalf of your empire with civics, and earn the most Fame points in Humankind to win. Developed by Amplitude Studios and published by SEGA, Humankind launches on PC on 17 August.
