Back 4 Blood is a co-op first-person shooter and spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead that pits a team of Cleaners against a parasitic zombie threat known as the Ridden. From game-altering cards to Swarm mode, here are 6 things to know about Back 4 Blood. Sponsored by Warner Bros.
Back 4 Blood is developed by Turtle Rock Studios, formerly known as Valve South, the developers of Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. With Back 4 Blood, Turtle Rock takes the Left 4 Dead DNA and turns it into a new four-player cooperative FPS that can be played with friends or solo with AI companions. The zombie enemies known as the Ridden are former-humans who have been infected with a parasitic worm called the Devil Worm. Ridden come in a variety of forms, ranging from the common ridden, zombie-like enemies scattered throughout levels, to special Ridden, like the Tallboy who has a massive arm to smash Cleaners with, the Reeker that explodes of death, the Stinger which binds Cleaners and the Snitchers that call a horde with their scream. A new deck building mechanic lets players build decks of cards that they can pick from at the beginning of levels and from safehouses. Cards have various buffs and perks that stay with the character throughout the campaign, and can be used to help combat Corruption Cards which appear at the beginning of missions and adds a new randomised element, like the Mist card, which brings in a thick fog for reduced visibility. Corruption Cards add replayability by creating randomised events that make no two runs the same. Fight zombies with assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, snipers, LMGs, and melee weapons. Fort Hope is the central hub of the game where players can manage decks, play missions, test weapons at the shooting range and buy cards and cosmetics using supply points. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios, Back 4 Blood is out on 12th October on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC.
