For Dune, director Denis Villeneuve and his design team had the challenge of bringing the sandworms of planet Arrakis to life. We talked to Dune: Part 1 VFX supervisor Paul Lambert about creating the enormous, God-like worms from the Frank Herbert science fiction classic. He got into the real-life inspiration for the movement of the worm, how their throats became so detailed the visual effects team could've taught Shai-Hulud a surprising new trick, and why Villeneuve described the moment Paul Atreides (played by Timothee Chalamet) meets the worm face to face as a "goat meeting a lobster."
Dune is nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including the Oscar for best visual effects for Paul Lambert and his team.
