You might be wondering, how many planets are there outside our solar system? There's reportedly more than 5,000 planets outside our solar system. This confirmation comes from NASA, where on March 21st they turned on the planetary odometer, adding 65 more planets to its Exoplanet Archive. With that addition, the number of confirmed and detectable planets beyond our solar system is just over 5,000, with 35% of the planets being categorized as Neptune-like, 31% identified as super-Earths, 30% as gas giants, and 4% as terrestrial. The Jet Propulsion Lab also shared a video to celebrate this cosmic discovery, which they achieved by using powerful telescopes located on the ground and in space. This #NASA discovery is truly out of this world!
