NCSoft, renowned for titles like Guild Wars and Lineage, has announced Project LLL, an ambitious open-world MMO third-person shooter set for release in 2024 on PC and consoles. The game is set in an alternate reality where 10th-century Byzantine Empire elements coexist with 23rd-century technology, drawing inspiration from works like Foundation, Dune, Blade Runner, and The Man in the High Castle. Players will explore a vast, seamlessly connected 30-square-kilometer open world, engaging in combat that emphasizes realistic animations and offers diverse combinations of guns, suits, tactical gear, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Project LLL aims to create a new genre, distinct from traditional looter shooters and battle royales, by blending various play styles and elements from NCSoft's previous games. The developers have released a gameplay trailer and a developer diary, providing insights into the game's mechanics and world-building. NCSoft's goal is to establish a unique market presence with this new intellectual property, combining shooter, MMO, and open-world elements to offer a fresh gaming experience. The game's setting in a futuristic Seoul, intertwined with historical and futuristic timelines, promises a rich narrative and immersive environment for players.
