Russia has selected Sofia Fisenko as its representative in the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the song Zhivaya voda which translates as Living Water. The winner of the national selection was decided by a combination of internet and professional jury voting. The result was announced by superstar Philipp Kirkorov who co-wrote You Are The Only One, Russia's entry for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
A total of 16 performers from 12 different cities took part in the Russian national selection for the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. 14 year old Sofia Fisenko, from the city of Novomoskovsk, emerged victorious and will represent Russia in Malta in November.
She told MiaMusic: “I am very pleased I won and it’s like a fairy-tale at the moment. I sang a song Living Water, which reveals what takes place in the soul and mind of a teenager when they grow older. As I am also a representative of the younger generation, I know that very well. I am really hoping for strong support from friends and fans!"
Russia has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest since 2005 and won the competition in 2006 with the song Vesenniy jazz performed by the Tolmachevy Sisters, who went on to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 placing seventh with the song Shine.
