After Switzerland, who won the first ever Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, refused to host the contest again, Frankfurt in Germany got the opportunity to host the contest in 1957. 10 Countries participated in this edition of the contest. Gimmicks are common at the contest, and it all started in 1957, when the German entry featured a telephone prop. The telephone played an important role in the contest in general, as it was the only way to reach the international juries at that time.

Corry Brokken from The Netherlands won the contest and the Danish act until now holds the record for longest on-screen kiss ever recorded at the contest.
