Welcome to Eurovision this month. This is your update of January 2019.
Yesterday, the allocation draw and Host City handover ceremony took place in Tel Aviv. The deputy Mayor of the city of Lisbon handed over the Eurovision keys to the mayor of Tel Aviv.
After that, The first part of the draw determined which Semi-Final each of the six pre-qualified countries (Israel, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) will broadcast and vote in.
The second draw decided in which Semi-Final each of the other participating countries will perform.
Like last year, this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will see four hosts. Erez Tal, Bar Refaeli, Assi Azar and Lucy Ayoub will share their hosting duties at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest this May!
Earlier this month, the official artwork of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest was released
In Spain, Operación Triunfo was used as the selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest for the second year in a row. Miki won with song La Venda.
Spain’s neighbours France selected Bilal Hassani for Tel Aviv. Roi will be the song performed on stage for France.
Malta used Xfactor to select their artist this year. Michela Pace will represent the island nation in Tel Aviv!
For the second year, Czech Republic held an online selection for their Eurovision hopeful. Yesterday it was announced that Lake Malawi will represent the Czech Republic with the song Friend Of A Friend.
Early this morning, Austria announced Paenda as their artist. A bit later, Finland announced their participant. Darude will represent the country. San Marino will, like in 2016, be represented by Serhat and Eliot will fly the Belgian flag in Tel Aviv. Tamara Todevska will represent the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia this year and The Netherlands announced Duncan Laurence as their artist for Tel Aviv.
