Don Covay, was an American R&B, rock and roll and soul singer and songwriter most active from the 1950s to the 1970s. He released his 9th studio album Funky Yo-yo in 1977 under the Versatile Label. The album is a surprisingly old fashioned 60s sounding R&B, rock and funk piece that is similar to acts like the Animals, The Rolling Stones, and Them. Funky Yo-Yo has a very rootsy, stripped-down feel that makes it appealing, particularly as it was appearing at a time when many fellow soul greats of Covay's generation were issuing attempts to jump on the disco bandwagon.
