Throughout the history of hip-hop, rappers have referenced Arabic words used in Islamic prayers in their lyrics. Regardless of whether they’re Muslim or not, many MCs have invoked the words and phrases in their proper context. Many of the references include the word, Allah, the Arabic word for God. Others use the phrases “Allahu Akbar” to praise Allah and “As-Salaam-Alaikum” to indicate friendship and brotherhood. In addition, “Inshallah” is used while hoping for a good thing, while “Mashallah” thanks God for good fortune.
