Singer Laura Pausini is the presenter of the Eurovision Song Festival in Turin, Italy this week. That is why we highlight her today

Laura Pausini (Solarolo, 16 May 1974) is an Italian singer who is very popular in the Italian and Spanish-speaking world. She also has many followers in Belgium and the Netherlands. After Italy, the Netherlands was the first country where the singer was successful. She sings in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English. She has a warm, powerful voice with a large range of voices. Her songs are mainly about love, but Laura also sings about peace, poverty and racism.
She was officially discovered by producer Angelo Valsiglio during the annual San Remo festival. The then 18-year-old Laura won the festival with the song La Solitudine. This number also caught on in the Netherlands and thus formed her international breakthrough. 'La solitudine' reached #1 in the Dutch Top 40 in January 1994.

This performance was recorded and broadcast by TROS tv program 'Geld Maakt Niet Gelukkig' on 27 November 1993.
