Very rare first performance in the Netherlands of the then 21 year old Whitney Houston in the AVRO TV program ‘Plaza’.
This was, together with her first TopPop appearance with her single ‘All At Once’, from her debut album ‘Whitney Houston’, her first visit abroad and the first in the Netherlands. See for this clip the TopPop channel.
She sang at this TV show to a backing track before a live audience.
This was her second single in the Netherlands (3rd in the USA) from the album and was only released in the USA in November of 1985. So this might well be her debut of this single on TV.
The single reached #1 in the charts in the USA and canada, #2 in Sweden , #5 in the UK and #15 in the Netherlands.
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 200 million records worldwide. Houston's vocal performances, as well as her prominence on the MTV and popular music charts, have influenced many African American artists.
Houston began singing in church as a child and became a background vocalist while in high school. She was one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine after becoming a teen model in 1981. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, Houston signed to the label at age 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. She is the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), was certified quintuple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and yielded two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, the title track "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "All the Man That I Need".
