Albert West (real name: Albert Westelaken) was a Dutch singer and producer, born in Den Bosch. He scored his first hits in 1969/1970 as the singer of the Brabant group The Shuffles. In 1973 he left the group for a solo career.
In May 1973 Ginny Come Lately (a cover of Brian Hyland) became a hit in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. It will be his first and biggest solo hit in the Netherlands. In the years that followed he mainly released covers of ballads.
'You An Me' reached 10 in the Dutch Top 40 on 12 April 1975.
In 2009 West celebrated his 45th anniversary with a theatre tour. At the end of 2012, West was affected by a spinal cord infarction. In June 2015, the news came that West died at the age of 65 from the consequences of a collision.

TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years.
World famous music artists performed on TopPop: ABBA, 10CC, Bee Gees, The Jacksons, David Bowie, Earth & Fire, Boney M, Smokie, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chick, Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, and many many more.
