21 August 2020 - Accra, Ghana - During COVID-19 lockdown, I went for long walks in myAccra neighborhood. Mostly alone. I love walking and running. Preferably in the evening when the sun is about to set.
I used these moments to listen to OBAA YAA on my headphones. While listening, I looked at what’s around me and said to myself, “I need to capture this vibe”. The houses, the sun-bleached walls, the rusted abandoned vehicles on the streets, all strongly reminded me of my childhood. Growing up in Tema, a Harbour city in South Ghana, this was familiar scenery in unfamiliar times.
I instantly told myself, “I need to shoot my video for `I Agree´with these backgrounds”. The old blue Truck, the colors of the houses, walls and gates. I instantly felt inspired. On some of the walls the paint had come off. The part of Accra I live in is close to the Ocean. The humidity in the air changed the paint into something different. A transformation.
The “I agree” video needed to be shot here.
I told “Jhey Too Cool”, my Video Director about all of this, and he was immediately on board with the idea. Jhey worked above and beyond to make this vision a reality. I’m proud my friends and colleagues decided to be part of my video.
I shot with SISTER DEBORAH my dear friend who is not only a well established Afro Pop star in Ghana but also an environmentalist and all in all a great inspiring creative director. It was also my great pleasure to have Champion Rolie and DemzyBaye in my video. They are part of the DWPACADEMY and were recently featured in the Beyoncé and Shatta Walle video“Already”.
Last but not least we have the “Incredible Zigi”. A very cool guy, and an incredible dancer. He has worked with top-notch West African Artists such as MR EAZI, DAVIDO, STONEBWOY & PATORANKING.
