Kankou Kouyate is a singer and songwriter, from one of Mali’s foremost musical families. In 2017, Kankou met the Scottish musician and producer Mark Mulholland in Bamako, and together they have created a repertoire of original songs blending African and western influences in a fresh and innovative style. For their first album, “Kuma”, the Parisian musician Olaf Hund added a layer of electronic beats and textures, which combine with Mark's rock-, blues- and folk-flavoured guitars and Kankou’s magical voice to create a unique and enchanting musical tapestry. "Kuma" is released on Cannery Row Records on 6th December 2019, to coincide with a performance at the Maison Populaire, Montreuil, France, as part of the Africolor Festival. www.kankou.ml
