The music and video of “Golden Savanna” evoke a sunlit plateau where the Acacia trees preside over the land, and the inhabitants of the savanna live their lives. Ostriches strut, birds hover and fly, elephants stroll, wildebeasts migrate, and gazelles gallop. The overall visual is rich, combining a free-improv performance by the duo of Sonic Twist (vocalist Judi Silvano and guitarist Bruce Arnold) with the painting “Joyful” by videographer/artist Michal Shapiro. The painting is used as both a backdrop and a visual device in which the flat topography of the savanna is echoed in the painting’s horizontal stripes and gradations of color. Add to this the animations that bridge the photographic images with a more graphic plane. In all, the video feels like a glimpse into the private life of a special, free place.
